These words are very sweet and precious to me - and as sad as it seems, they were spoken to me over the television by Mister Rogers. I don't know how, but I truly believed him. I guess there was a sincerity about Fred Rogers that transcended space and in my heart I knew he meant it.
I have been reading the book "I'm Proud Of You: Life Lessons From My Friend Fred Rogers" by Tim Madigan - It is a book that somewhat chronicles his relationship with Fred Rogers and how God used Fred to help Tim out of a deep depression. It's a perspective book - and simply put I love the perspective. What I have come to understand is that my child-like perception of Mister Rogers sincerity was right on the mark.
Mister Rogers did not know in his earthly body how many children's lives and hearts he touched, but I am sure now - he does. He left behind an incredible legacy and it is my prayer that those of us that grew up watching Mister Rogers Neighborhood will continue being the neighbor who teaches, encourages, loves, understands, hopes and builds up those who come in contact with us. Sometimes I think perhaps Mister Rogers was an angel on earth - a little bit of Heaven with skin on. He loved purely and completely as much as any man could.
Speaking words of life to others and myself is what I desire to live out for the rest of my life. Letting people see that they are valuable to me - and more importantly, to God. I am sure I am not an angel - but perhaps I can bring a little bit of Heavens love to others through my life.
I know this - I am proud of you - you are special - I like you just the way you are - are all words that filled a portion of my heart when I was a little girl. I will always remember and be thankful to God that someone was willing speak words of life and love when it wasn't "cool" or "manly".
So I say to you: I like you just the way you are.
Jennifer
